Street and cctv camera. Buses braking at the junction, wind in the trees,’Cheerio’, mobile phones, coughing, ‘Are you drawing’ ?,smell of cut grass, ripping of paper as the wind catches, tearing of tape to stick paper together, laughter, car doors slamming, litter rustling along the fence, ‘Aye, see you later’…,seagulls, pushchairs, bluebells, rain, sighing, squeaky trainers,someone reading a cutting from a newspaper and placing it carefully back in a wallet, pencil on paper, shopping bags, hair blowing in my face, police siren.

Rain coming and going. Sat in the bus shelter and talked to lots of people about the burn.Two women told me of a boy in their class who had drowned and another who told me she and her friends would play in the ruined cottages in Linlathen. Another said she lived in a tenement in town and loved the view of the back green and the washing lines.She said she hadn’t been anywhere very far, and hadn’t seen most of Dundee, perhaps she ought to, she said.

30th April, drawing in Fintry. Rain, hail and wind in the north.

Tuesday 28th April. In the car on the way to buy compost for the tree planting he says you’re driving like Dick Dastardly. Smiling, I look across and say so who does that make you ? Wheezy laugh……..

This is a design for the flyers that will be winging their way around Fintry, Whitfield, Douglas, Mid Craigie, and Kirkton. If you see me out and about drawing, do stop for a chat especially, but not exclusively (!) about anything related to Dighty and the environment – stories, ideas, or anything you would like to see change or improved in the community.

Jim sat next to me on a bench.  He rolled some cigarettes and I drew the street. The CCTV camera watching us. We spoke a little, but fell silent, each getting on with their job. A while later he told me he was off to the bookies, then the pub. He left. I finished my drawing.

Today was the first day of drawing proper. I sat on the pavement in Fintry drawing the junction, while people walked past and some stopped to ask what I was doing. I met Ron who lived in the house behind where I was sitting and we had a chat. A few minutes later he came back out to show me some of his paintings and then a wee bit later invited me in for a cup of tea. I  had a lovely time with Ron and his wife Iris , thanks to them for their kindness and conversation. Oh and a caramel log …. So here is my first preliminary sketch and with his permission Rons paintings .
