  1. I really like this—in paticular the luminosity of the sail and the sun (or moon?).

I’m curious about how/when you apply the charcoal. Do you make the marks once the oil paint had dried a bit, or straight into the wet paint? (I’ve only just started playing with oils.)

    1. Thanks Chris and in answer to your question – both ? Although in fairness I do tend to draw into the wet paint more as I think the immediacy of thought is something thats key. And apologies if I have already said this but there are no rules and whatever materials you use in whatever order or combination is good – the communication is all 🙂
Enjoy the oil paint it is wondrous stuff !

      1. Except maybe acrylic on top of oil? I’ve heard there’s potential for cracking if you do that. But maybe that could add to some paintings?

Thanks, Dominique. I really enjoy making mixed-media pieces (in the immediate way that you describe), but I’ve only done it with water-based (and various drawing) media so far.

Oils is new to me. I’m just using R&F Oil Sticks at the moment. Beautiful, and a lot of fun, but so different from my acrylics! The dry time is going to take some getting used to. 😄
