A warming day in the hills this morning. Shoogling catkins, soft murmurs of Spring. A giant bird box high in an oak tree. Higher up the ground is spongy, soggy, seeping into my left foot. I forgot there’s a hole. I always do . Shadows of cloud animate the southern flank of hills, a keen wind hurrying them through. Shovefuls of air and light and just enough heat in the sun to make me smile.

Really nice drawing. Did you use water-soluable graphite or something like that?

Hi Chris I used watercolour crayon. Its easy to take on a walk – just paper and one crayon 🙂

Ah, I didn’t know there was such a thing. I’ve used watercolor pencils, Derwent XL blocks, and one or two other water soluble drawing implements, but not watercolor crayons. I might have to try those. They sound like an ideal way to draw (and add a bit of colour) outdoors. Thanks!

Another question, out of interest, do you take a little bit of water with you, or just use some out of a stream or something like that? Or maybe just out of a drink bottle?
